Ten Positive Memories From 2020
“2020 is like you look both ways before crossing the street, and then you get hit by a submarine.”
The Washington Post asked readers to submit a word or phrase to describe 2020. The Best Summation title was the quote above, submitted by a 9-year-old girl from Michigan.
It would be easy to dovetail into a bash fest as 2020 comes to close. Really, that would be so easy.
But I’ve found some positive energy in 2020. Even as I reflect on the last three months, there are bright spots. Here are 10 memories I’ll look back on to fondly remember 2020:
Added some long-overdue certificates in digital marketing. Thanks Google Digital Garage and SEMRush!
Played mid-afternoon weekday football with W and O. With virtual learning and time at home during the day as I search for a job, we’ve had moments to step outside in the middle of the day for some activity.
Taught W & O how to ride bikes. They had an immense joy and sense of accomplishment when they got it on a paved track behind a school in our neighborhood.
Networked with new professional contacts via LinkedIn. In a virtual pandemic world, this is a skill I needed to work on, and I’m proud to say I’m making improvements there.
Went camping with my family for the first time. Smores, hiking, campfires. W and O are excited for another camping trip.
Started rolling sushi again. Tempura shrimp roll with cream cheese, cucumber, avocado, topped with eel sauce and panko crumbs. Delicious.
Family baseball, tennis, and soccer. Lindenwood Park has a great setup and is close by, but I’m pretty sure O thinks he’s in heaven at the park by the Shrewsbury police and fire stations with the baseball field, small soccer field, and the faux-grass tennis courts.
St. Louis CITY SC announced its name. We’re counting down to 2023 and MLS in downtown St. Louis!
Taught W & O chess. We’re no Queen’s Gambit here, but it has made for some fun nights.
My brother had an exciting year. Aric moved in with his partner, Dean, and landed a new full-time job. Proud of him and thrilled for the happiness he has found in 2020.
